Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden’s Bilateral Talks to Include Mega Defence Deals

As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden prepare for their upcoming bilateral talks, one of the major topics on the agenda is the potential closure of significant defence deals. While discussions are underway, the final decision on these equipment offerings depends on the conditions set by the Biden administration, as reported by Hindustan newspaper. If the deals proceed, they will serve as crucial milestones in India-US defence cooperation. Additionally, there are expectations of a $2.7 billion chip plant agreement with Micron, as well as collaborations in quantum computing and artificial intelligence.

The Stryker vehicles, known for their agility and armament capabilities, could be manufactured locally under India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. Furthermore, the US has offered to upgrade India’s M777 howitzers with precision-guided long-range ammunition to address the artillery challenge along India’s northern borders.

Among other defence procurements, the anticipated F-414 aircraft engines for the indigenous Tejas jets and the acquisition of Sea Guardian or ‘Reaper’ drones are poised to be significant milestones. These measures aim to enhance India’s surveillance capabilities along the China border and in the Indian Ocean region, given the military standoffs and increased troop deployment in recent years.

Stay tuned for the latest updates as these defence discussions unfold, shaping the future of India’s security and strategic partnerships.
